Given the pressures of the Covid pandemic, much greater awareness of this often-overlooked syndrome is needed to help prevent its destructive progression, warns Dr Dumakazi Mapatwana, a psychiatrist practising at Netcare Akeso Alberton. “Burnout is a complex reaction to sustained extreme stress.
