The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced the university will accept the scores of the National Eligibility Test (NET) instead of the NTA entrance test as the selection criteria for admission to its Ph.D programs from the current academic session, i.e. Academic Year 2024-25
From June 2024, UGC will use NET scores for PhD admissions, streamlining the process according to the National Education Policy. The revision eliminates the need for multiple entrance exams, categorizing candidates based on eligibility and merit evaluation methods.
Starting from the academic year 2024-2025, the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores will serve as the basis for PhD admissions, eliminating the need for separate entrance tests by universities and higher education institutions, as per the University Grants Commission (UGC). Currently used for awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and assistant professor eligibility, the NET will now facilitate PhD admissions nationwide.
