RUSSELL, Ky. (AP) â Good things are happening in Russell.
Just ask Mayor Ron Simpson. He and the group Revitalize Russell are working to make the city more attractive, hoping a sort of makeover will help bring businesses â and tourists â to the downtown area.
One project completed: A âWelcome to Russellâ mural by Ashland artist Elias Reynolds.
âTracy Frye commissioned me to make a painting of Russell encompassing various landmarks for her law office in Russell,â Reynolds said. âThe Russell City Council liked it so much they decided they wanted a mural of it. I added the âWelcome to Russellâ for the mural.â

The Nest has reopened in a new location after a fire destroyed their previous location
Hillary Brock, owner of The Nest Spa & Skincare Boutique, is grateful for the support of her customers and the community over the past few months. In Sept. 2020, a fire on the 100 block of Federal Street in Milton caused by an electrical malfunction destroyed her business and several others. Although no one was injured despite people being inside the building when the fire began, Brock’s business was a total loss.
“I was renting that space and offered nails, skin care and massage services,” Brock said. “At the time, I was handling all the supplies for everyone working with me as well as my own needs as an esthetician. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do but figured this was like a redo for my business. My husband and I had just built a new home in Lewes. We put up a big pole barn and my husband suggested we section off the front of the building and turn it into my shop.”
