The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield says it has taken several steps to better understand Indigenous issues and move toward reconciliation.
On Monday, council adopted five of the six Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that are applicable to municipalities.
One of those recommendations deals with educating public servants on the history of Indigenous Peoples, which the town hopes to implement as soon as possible.
“A recommendation will be before Council for the sixth Call to Action no later than July 26, 2021,” the town said in a news release.
The Canadian Commission for UNESCO’s Municipal Coalition for Inclusion Declaration was also approved during the meeting.
