it was roughly around this location. 65 miles south. then two ukrainian neptune missiles struck, and this is according to ukrainian officials. somewhere in this region being able to reach the moskva while claiming they had an unrelated fire that ignited, and then sunk. ukraine does not have a significant missile program, but they did have, in fact, a missile program that was in the middle of modifying what was a soviet-era missile. it s called the neptune. this is a picture from it from earlier that of this particular one. the wall street journal says this missile was not even done yet at the start of this war. in its final form though, the neptune is thought to be truck mounted.
repeatedly launched aerates repeatedly today. he joins me now. ali, thank you for joining us. i think it s after two in the morning over there. bring us up on the latest on the ground. good evening. since ukrainian sunk the moskva symbol of russian military might, the russians have certainly stepped up their attacks, not just on civilian population, but on strategic locations. right after that battleship fell to the bottom of the black sea, they hit a missile factory on the outskirts of kyiv, where they produced a neptune missile which hit the moskva. then again today, they hit another military factory. we don t know exactly what it was, but it will be safe to presume that that was manufacturing things going to the frontlines to fight the russians. there was an attack here in lviv as well, to su-35 russian fighter jets that were launched from belarus, tried to hit somewhere in lviv, with four
definitively this was indeed the case, that the ukrainian forces were able to sink this ship with those neptune missile and see this is hugely significant, not just in terms of the change it will make to russian forces and how they re able to strike out at ukrainian targets but also the symbolism of this, we haven t seen a massive naval ship like this sunk for some 40 years. this is a great embarrassment for russia and for the russian defense ministry. this is also the same ship that has become immortalized in ukraine after that famous situation in which ukrainian sailors on the verge of being captured said russian warship, go eff yourself, that has now been made into a stamp, a postage stamp here in ukraine. so again, the symbolism of this certainly weighs very heavily. it feels, for the ukrainian side, like a tremendous victory,
and meanwhile, ukraine also claims that they launched two of these long-range anti-surface cruise missiles, the neptune missile, but is the part that truly has not been verified. but i think the impact of it either way, whatever caused the explosion, the fire, the disabling of this ship, is going to have huge impacts for russia s ability to control its forces. the other ships are in the black sea. we did see a few weeks ago, and it was verified, that a russian ship was struck by the ukrainians, and damaged. so these things, they appear to continue to disable, and remove some of russia s ability to continue this onslaught against ukraine. specifically, there have been concerns about how they could use their forces that have amassed in the black sea to strike against port cities such as odessa, and others. so i think it would be encouraging to know that they
