当地时间7月12日，尼泊尔最高法院公布裁定结果，撤销了总统在5月22日宣布解散议会众议院的决定，要求7月18日下午重启众议院并且举行会议。尼泊尔最高法院同时发布指令，要求总统办公室任命德乌帕为总理。尼泊尔总统班达里13日下午任命尼泊尔大会党主席德乌帕为新一任总理，德乌帕13日晚20时20分宣誓就职。
这是75岁的德乌帕第五次担任尼泊尔政府首脑。根据尼泊尔宪法规定，他必须在13日就职后30天内赢得议会众议院的信任投票，否则众议院将依法解散，六个月后举行选举。
