Neosho City Council discusses graffiti Neosho Daily News The Neosho City Council met on Jul. 20, with the majority of their short discussion revolving around a potential graffiti ordinance while also having the second and third readings for a few bills and introducing new ordinances. Unfinished business/New ordinances First, bills 2021-71 and 2021-72 had their second and third readings approved by council. 2021-71 amended city revenue and expenditure budgets to reflect chances since the adoption of the original budget for the Fiscal Year 2021. The cities workers compensation and property insurance increased this year and required the amendment to the budget.

Closing of Broadway Street receives no second, other city council updates Neosho Daily News The Neosho City Council met for their first of two meetings this month on Jul. 6, hearing comments from citizens, accepting bids, having the final readings for various bills, declining to close a portion of Broadway Street and discussing new business. Visitor’s Business Of the six citizens that spoke at the Jul. 6 meeting, four of them gave their opinion on the closing of a portion of Broadway Street, from Benham Avenue to Sherman Avenue. Teresa Niswonger, Jewell Benner, Paula Sprenger and Rusty Sprenger all live in that area of Broadway Street with all four telling council that they were opposed to the closing of that portion of Broadway.

Neosho City Council Candidate Q and A, part two Neosho Daily News During the November elections, the citizens of Neosho approved changing the number of City Council members from five to seven and established four wards. Of the five current council members, Mayor Carmin Allen and Councilman Tim Workman’s terms both end in Apr. 2021 and neither filed for reelection. The openings are in Ward 1 for a three-year term, Ward 2 for a two-year term, Ward 3 for a two-year term and a general At Large opening for a three-year term that will be voted on by all four voting precincts.  Leading up to the Apr. 6 election, the Neosho Daily News will be profiling the candidates for the open seats. Neosho Parks Department announces plans for several improvements in 2021

Submitted by Clint Dalbom, Neosho Parks Director Neosho Daily News With spring just weeks away, the city of Neosho Parks Department has announced plans for multiple improvements in 2021. The city continues to invest in the parks department to provide residents with plenty of outdoor recreational options. “Someone asked me if this year was going to be a letdown since we do not have any big projects in the works like we did last year. The development of the bike trails at High Ground Bike Preserve did in fact keep us busy throughout the year,” Parks Director Clint Dalbom said. “We were excited to see what the finished product would look like. But we are excited for the coming year, we have many good things coming.”
