For Howard and Nena Mamou, this week has been a learning experience.
Like many in Texas, the Mamous lost power at their home in Hutto as freezing temperatures wreaked havoc on the state s power grid. Both native Texans, the Mamous have never really dealt with snow save for a vacation to Colorado.
Early on, the Mamous realized they should have put their perishable food in the snow or moved it into the colder garage. They learned to get as much done as possible when the propane burners on their stove were turned on. They ve filled and saved buckets of water, discovered that the living room is a warmer place to sleep than the bedroom and determined that all tasks must be done before the natural light starts to wane at 5 p.m.
