VIJAYAWADA: A village volunteer was arrested on Wednesday for killing his in-laws with the help of his wife as they failed to give dowry. The incident took place at Bandipalem in Chillakallu mandal late Tuesday night.
The accused was identified as Nemali Babu, a village volunteer and his wife Maneesha. According to Chillakallu police, Nemali Babu married Maneesha four months ago against the wishes of her parents. The couple took a rented house at Chillakallu after marriage.

Babu, a grama volunteer, fell in love with his neighbour, Manasa, and married her three months ago.
The couple were insisting that Manasa’s parents, Thota Muttaiah (62) and Sugunamma (50), give ₹1 lakh as dowry. Muttaiah complained about the behaviour of his son-in-law to the village elders, said Jaggaiahpet Circle Inspector (CI) P. Chandrashekar.
Taking objection to the behaviour of Muttaiah, Babu developed a grudge against his in-laws, and allegedly slit their throats while sleeping.

The accused Nemali Babu was in love with a minor girl named Manisha, and got married to her four months ago. Manisha s parents approved of the marriage. Recently, Babu started harassing his in-laws for dowry money. The accused was upset that though the father-in-law had promised to pay money, was evading his request to pay.
