MUSKEGON, MI A 19-year-old Muskegon man involved with the coverup of a former classmate’s 2019 killing was sentenced Wednesday to a maximum of five years in prison.
J’Aun Bates pleaded guilty to two felony charges, including one count of accessory after the fact to a felony and one count of lying to police during a violent criminal investigation. Both charges stemmed from Bates’ role in the Aug. 25, 2019, shooting of 18-year-old Muskegon High School graduate Mervin Bonner Jr.
