WARRIORS coach Zdravko Logarusic has dismissed concerns about his players’ lack of competitive game time ahead of his team’s African Nations Championships (CHAN) opener against hosts Cameroon at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde Saturday.
Zimbabwe head into the continental championships reserved for locally-based players on the back of inadequate preparations as players have been inactive inactivity as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Local players last played competitive football when the country’s top-flight season ended on November 30, 2019 while ZIFA was unable to organise friendly matches for the team in the build-up to the tournament.

ZIMBABWE’S preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals received a boost after 15 players and officials who tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago managed to recover following another round of tests on Friday.
The Warriors’ preparations for the continental tournament for home-based players were brought to a halt after nine players and six officials, including coach Zdravko Logarusic, all tested positive on return to camp from the Christmas break on December 28.
ZIFA was forced to cancel the team’s training session as the affected members went into isolation.
The local football mother body however revealed on Saturday that only one player is yet to recover, and preparations have resumed ahead of the team’s departure for the tournament on Wednesday.

COVID-19 hit Warriors are scheduled to be re-tested for the ailment tomorrow with those returning positive results set to be replaced as the biannual Chan football tournament dates draw closer.
The tournament, which was originally slated to run between April 4-25 last year in Cameroon but cancelled due to the deadly virus, is now pencilled for January 16 to February 7 in the West African nation.
But the Warriors preparations for what will be their fifth appearance at the fiesta reserved for players plying their trade in their domestic leagues were thrown upside-down when nine players and five officials, including coach Zdravko Logarusic, tested positive for coronavirus.
