Hourman
Chernin Entertainment is getting into the superhero movie business and producing an adaptation of the popular “Hourman” comic book for Warner Bros. and DC Films, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Writing duo Gavin James and Neil Widener are writing the script.
Originally created by Ken Fitch and Bernard Baily in 1940, “Hourman” had three different versions of that character. The first one centered on chemist Rex Tyler. Tyler is a master chemist and adrenaline junkie who, as Hourman, is a thrill-seeking superhero with the ability to manifest super-strength… for one hour a day. A founding member of the Justice Society of America, Rex/Hourman struggles with balancing his life as a hero and father.

Created by Ken Fitch and artist Bernard Baily and first introduced in 1940’s
Adventure Comics #48, the original Hourman was Rex Tyler, a chemist who synthesizes a supernaturally-powerful substance called “Miraclo” into pill (and later transdermal) form.
Possessing no superpowers of his own, Rex (and subsequent
Hourman heroes Rick Tyler, Rex’s son; as well as the android-alias Matthew Tyler) could tap into an “Hour of Power” of mega-powerful attributes, stopping speeding bullets and even surviving underwater with a single dose of Miraclo. The catch, at least in the original
Hourman comics, is that those effects wear off when the golden hour ends.

A DC Comics HOURMAN Film Is in Development

Another deep cut superhero is looking to make the jump to the big screen.
Deadline is reporting that classic DC hero Hourman is being developed as a feature film. The writing duo of Gavin Games and Neil Widener are writing the script. No director is attached, as this project is in its earliest stages. The character first appeared in 1940, during the Golden Age of comics.
DC Comics
There have been several iterations of Hourman, so it’s difficult to say which one is making the cut. The original, and still most famous, is scientist Rex Tyler. “Tick-Tock” Tyler is a chemist who develops a formula called “Miraclo,” granting him super strength, speed, and agility. But the catch is that he only has these powers for one hour, hence the name. Why he’d wear his weakness on his sleeve like that is baffling. But hey, it was a simpler time.
