The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has played on for much of the pandemic, thanks to early planning that allowed for pivoting of its programming.
“Very early in the pandemic, we realized that live audiences were a very long way off,” Neil Middleton, the vice-president of marketing and sales at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, said Tuesday. “We created a recording plan that was based on the idea of recording regularly scheduled live concerts.

VANCOUVER The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music has suspended pianist and faculty member John Stetch from accessing school facilities after video surfaced of what appeared to be a social gathering that violates B.C. public health orders. In the video, which lasts over an hour, and appears to have been live-streamed and recorded Saturday night, Stetch and a dozen other people eat, drink, and socialize. There is no hint of physical distancing or masks, although at one point the person behind the camera asks Stetch if he has a face mask that matches his shimmering “astronaut pants.” Stetch responds, “Oh yeah, somewhere, yeah,” before erupting in laughter.

Just a day before the government clamped down on non-essential travel and threw us into Tier 4, the long-awaited £5.7m upgrade of St Albans City station was officially opened by community leaders.
The newly transformed facilities have freed up space for passengers to move around more easily when they return in greater numbers after the pandemic.
The main station building at St Albans City has been extended over two storeys ready to house a premier-brand High Street convenience store, and by moving staff rooms to a new building on platform 4, there is now space for a new waiting area with a coffee shop, new toilets and an additional ticket gate which will bring another ticket gateline into use.
