February is Black History Month, and two black women in leadership positions at Tenet Health Central Coast are especially proud of their black heritage. KSBYâs Neil Hebert sat down with doctors Tamara Battle and Aiga Charles to talk about how they hope to continue paving the way for others in healthcare.
âItâs about heritage and remembering those who came before; the struggles they had that I didnât have to go through. I rarely have felt that the color of my skin has dictated my path within the Tenet organization,â said Dr. Tamara Battle, a managing partner of Central Coast Pediatrics and the Governing Board Chair of Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

An unknowing Avila Beach woman was on the receiving end of an anonymous gift, giving the rest of us hope that the Christmas spirit is alive and well.
KSBYâs Neil Hebert has the story.
A stranger, a checkout line at the Dollar Tree, and an envelope stuffed with a $100 bill brought joy to 86-year-old Patricia Hallock when she needed it most.
âI canât even describe how I felt when I saw this,â said Pat. âI was at a loss for words.â

Sickness and disease wonât stop when the holidays arrive, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic; public health officials expect numbers to increase rapidly. That leaves healthcare workers worldwide working over the holidays. KSBYâs Neil Hebert reports.
âRemember the people that are near and dear to you,â said Lori Boudreau, a critical care nurse at French Hospital in San Luis Obispo.
And be sure not to forget about those working tirelessly, caring for patients who have fallen ill.
âThis last week has been the busiest time that weâve had in our San Luis Obispo intensive care units since the beginning of the pandemic,â said Dr. Ross Michel, a pulmonary care physician for Dignity Health.
