Skopje must explicitly guarantee that there are no claims to Bulgaria’s territorial integrity and the existence of a Macedonian minority, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told Skopje’s special envoy for talks with Bulgaria, Vlado Buchkovski, proposing that North Macedonia sign an annex to the Neighbourhood Treaty to address these issues.
“I have two topics that I ask you to pass on [to the government in Skopje]. The topic is about the sovereignty of Bulgaria – our territorial integrity and minorities. Suddenly, these two topics appeared and frightened the Bulgarian society”, said Borissov.
The PM also told Buchkovski he had no claims to the Macedonian language, sovereignty and identity. “When joining the EU, it doesn’t matter anymore which language one speaks,” Borissov added.

Austrian parliament approves hate speech law. A controversial bill regulating hate speech online has been approved by Austria’s parliament on Thursday. Designed after the German NetzDG-law, it forces platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to delete any content that has been marked as hate speech within 24 hours, though the comment sections of newspapers, for instance, are not affected.
