Mayor breed hello, everybody. Im london breed. Im mayor of the city and county of San Francisco, and i am so excited to be here today. We all know that there is a real crisis in our city, and i know that we hear that word used on a regular basis. But in this particular case what we see happening with those who are struggling with Mental Illness and Substance Use disorder and chronic homelessness is something that we see every day and we need to take aggressive action to address that issue. I am standing here with supervisor Hillary Ronen and mandelman to announce that even though we have had two competing measures, we have come together to do what is in the best interest of this city to introduce today at the board of supervisors a compromise that is going to help us address the most significant problem in our city. [ applause ]. Mayor breed i not only want to thank the supervisors, but i wanted to thank lou girardo. You remember lou has someone who worked with the board of supervisors
The committee to continue this item. Next speaker. Good morning. Now it is afternoon. Peter cohen. The pdas at a technical level, i would like to step back and think about this item in contrast to the last item sb50 and the conversation about local community planning. It is very encouraging to hear your Planning Department staff and i am thinking about supervisor browns comments early about the staff being helpful. It is not a technical resource. You didnt see the Planning Department staff taking a position opposing sb50 based on the amendment the board put forward. Frankly, that is what a Planning Department should be doing. Unfortunately they were silent and it took the board to do that technical work. Now the Planning Department is coming forward with a pda proposal saying this is not dictating zoning or telling you your process is taken away from you. This is the short of music to a lot of folks ears about doing the planning right. Of course, all of the details matter much. It seem
And one of the things that is so striking about this day, that i know a lot of us can see when we see the signs that we are carrying, is that of the 26 transgendered women that have been killed this year, 24 of them are black transgendered women. And with that, there was a speaker earlier today, a performance artist and poet named miss mojo who asked, what do we do when two black transgendered women are getting murdered every month. What do we do . And thats a really important and hard question for us to answer about what we can do. And in that, i wanted to take leadership in trans women of color and what they are saying. And one of the things Racquel Willis is a amazing editor at out magazine. She wrote a post today but all the things we can do. And one of the big things is investing in our communities. Investing in our leadership, putting resources in these organizations, and particularly with black transgendered women. So with that, kicking off transgender day of remembrance is impo
Ccba president. Dont take that kind of commitment lightly or for granted. Thank you so much. The ed lee democratic club. You guys gave the best testimony, but you also had the best stickers hands down when we were in the testimony room. Many of you worked hard with and for ed during his years as mayor and that came out when you gave your public testimony. Thank you. Also to our grassroots leaders to the community associations. Our Nonprofit Community leaders from a. P. I. Council. Your coming out really showed that this campaign was Something Special to real people and not just us political types or quoks out the there and i thought that was meaningful. Jan sey, you came out, wayne lee. The sisters of cities communities, you came out. You clearly relished eds relishment. That will be my only bad joke. Individual friends of ed lee came out. Francisco its own cultural competency training. The population in San Francisco is different from much of california. A cultural training would not be adequate to help provide the Compassionate Care necessary for the population of San Francisco. Second part of comment is related to what came up earlier. I work at a Retail Pharmacy nothing breaks my heart more when they come in to pick up the medication and they dont have the insurance papers. It takes days. They are homeless and they have to leave the pharmacy after 14 hours and dont get medication. They might be without de beat esmedcase and we cant find them to get the updated information. If we find the insurance we cant provide them what they needed. It is almost like the efforts of the Healthcare Providers are almost gone to waste because they dont get the therapy that they need. Than thank you. I am jennifer. I have multiple comments. Regarding cultural competency, i heard statements about linguistic competency. In recent bargain
