overnight, the president of neighboring chad has been meeting with the coup leaders and the deposed president, the first time we ve seen him. and it s interesting that he s mediating in this drawl, trying to avoid this, that insists this has to stop, there has to be a return to constitutional order in niger, because this is destabilizing not just niger, but across the region, which suffers from a huge amount of terrorist attacks from groups affiliated with isis and al qaeda. take a look at this vuf beijing. at least two people have died, more than 31,000 evacuated as a typhoon has lashed china s northeastern region. it s the strongest storm to hit that area in 17 years. since making landfall on friday, it has affected more than 880,000 people, it has caused nearly $60 million in property damage according to chinese state media. well, former president trump s political action committee spending $40 million on his legal fees.
and came out with a pretty stern warning for the military leaders behind this coup here, saying they would cut all ties with niger, close down their borders with this country and if they didn t release the president in the next week they threatened there could be military there could be military action. so the president of chad flew here today in in addition to meeting with the president, he met with at least one of the leaders of the military junta who are now the self-proclaimed leaders of this country. but you also mentioned these protests. from the beginning, there have been a couple of smaller protests. at times, they grew a little violent. but what we saw yesterday was these demonstrators in huge numbers. upwards of 20,000 people took to the streets. blotched traffic. most of what we saw in the streets yesterday were relatively peaceful. people were smiling.
