Marion company makes certain all teachers get end-of-year celebration

Neighborhood Storage, which opened in 1979, heard of the plight. The company not only paid $500 to its partner, South Ocala Elementary School, but also gave an additional $3,500 to be split among seven schools that did not have a business partner. The money helped pay for breakfast, lunch and/or other activities that the school had planned for its teachers. Those schools were: North Marion High, Horizon Academy and five elementary schools: Emerald Shores, Greenway Elementary, Harbour View,  Legacy Elementary and Ocala Springs. The money is paid through the Public Education Foundation of Marion County. Business Partnerships play a vital role in supporting schools, said Meghan Magamoll, the foundation s executive director, in a text interview.  During this past Teacher Appreciation Week, Neighborhood Storage stepped up to the plate and provided funding to all seven of the schools without their own partners.

New Publix to break ground at Cherrywood Marketplace in SW Marion County

A detailed road study of southwest Marion County about 20 years ago revealed that State Road 200 was poised for massive residential development and county leaders needed to designate land off that main highway to build neighborhood marketplaces. And, as the 2000 study predicted, SR 200 has grown to a six-lane highway thanks to the dozens of large residential developments. The area is now known as the State Road 200 corridor, a strip from Interstate 75 to County Road 484. The population in that area, also named by planners as the “triangle” because of that area’s shape, has exploded. And in return, so has the need for new business.

Horse Fever 20/20: Fourth public art event launches in Marion County

Fifteen majestic statues, all six-foot-tall milky white fiberglass horses, were the center of attention on Thursday as dozens of people scurried around a large warehouse in Ocala with excitement that the fourth Horse Fever event in 20 years was finally kicking off. These unfinished naked horses, as event organizers called them, will become masterpieces and placed on display during most of March for the community to enjoy. Then, the owners will designate where they will go to pasture. Many mask-wearing dignitaries, artists and patrons walked around a small section of Transformco s mammoth warehouse, once Ocala s Kmart Distribution Center, to chat about Horse Fever 20/20.
