have a pretty hard bargain on the administration who wants to get it passed but has veered off into impeachment territory. paul: the senate finance committee passed something, pelosi has a bill introduced and trump sounded like we want to get a deal, could we get something there, price controls on drug prices of one kind or another. sure, i think the best we can hope for is the two sides remain too far apart. there is common ground that is price control, references price toss international prices, something like that. but what we ve seen from the democrats is one of the proposals they say we need to negotiate price was companies and one of the proposals says if you fail to negotiate we ll take 75% of your sales from last year. that s the negotiation tactic. hopefully these don t percolate with democrats in the senate and that derails the project. paul: i think there s a chance that they could go ahead.
the thought of bringing them here makes me very angry and i think a lot of republicans will be uncomfortable with it, not only to fulfill a campaign to get them out but offering it on american soil. i asked secretary pompeo and his answer was look, the president is trying to achieve peace here and this was in his view the way to do it. we spent nearly a trillion dollars of american money that could have been spent doing so many other things of great good. it s time to end this war but it didn t have to happen by having the roughshod, slip shod negotiation tactic. these people destroyed so much of what we know of as global peace and understanding as a muslim-american sitting in high school watching those twin planes hit the tower, i didn t know how much my life would change because my name is abdul. the other fact of the matter is let s step back and appreciate
time. reporter: and president trump said that he did not believe that this weekend was the right time to meet with iran s foreign minister at the g7. but he may have another chance. emmanuel macron, france s president, is working to broker another meeting between president trump and iran in the next few weeks, erica. we ll be watching for that. abby, thank you. as you take stock of everything we just heard from the president, the president when asked about his chaotic messaging with china as we just heard in abby s piece which sent the market news a tail spin he said that was part of a negotiation tactic. amanda, this is the way he negotiates. is it effective? we ll see what happens. i think there are people in the business community who are hoping for a deal with china. you hear people say, well if he gets in electoral trouble next summer he ll come to the table and make something happen if the economy needs it so people are giving him a lot of rope on this but if you are look
well, i think what jonathan said was spot on that he s seen this as a negotiation tactic. that they think the worse they can show the conditions at the border the more congress will be moved to provide funding. when they provide funding they re asking for detention space across the board so when the president teases things like mass i.c.e. raids it s not clear. is that detention space going to be used to alleviate the suffering of children or going to be used in order to hold immigrants who are on their way to being deported from the country. right now, this negotiation tactic is what they re saying they re using and that they want more capacity, that detention space will alleviate some of the suffering but you re right. it s not i don t think that message is being received and i will say when i go to dhs on this, look, there s a lot of autonomy across the border, an inspector general flag on this, but it is not that immediate three alarm fire that you re talking about. are these
not a negotiation tactic. i think that was sort of a reason that it was invented after these were canceled but that was not the big discussion they had when they decided to call off the raids that this would somehow pressure democrats to bring them to the table. so jonathan, the president made news with a couple of quick tweets over the weekend and this is one of them. any insight into why? this is something they have been talking about, and do want to do, and part of the tougher the raids. it was logistical and capacity issues and there was real doubt they could pull it off. it s amusing that the leaks are blamed after the president tweeted out this was going to happen so he s the biggest leaker on this one. julia ainsley, thank you very much and still ahead on morning joe we ll go live to miami to set the stage for this week s presidential debates. with s got who s got the momentum right now and who could be on the chopping block?
