now it s probably not true, but where are the women? you see some women. you see some children. but for the most part i m looking at these strong men. you ask two things, number one, why aren t they fighting for their country. number two, i don t want these people coming over here. joining us is paul singer and olivia nutsy, political commentator for the daily beast. let s go to the theater. tuesday is the big debate. bernie sanders, what does he do? is he going to defend or try to gain more support on the national stage? i think he s going to try to gain more support on the national stage. obviously compared to hillary clinton, fewer people know who bernie sanders is. bernie sanders has made a point over the fact that he s never run a negative ad in vermont. he s never come out swinging against one of his opponents. he s never hit them swinging. i think it s unlikely we ll see him attacking hillary clinton on a personal level. he ll do what he said, just make the case for himself,
the number s 27. that s not a very good number. that would be a very slow start if you re talking about 27 protesters. every democrat or should i say any democrat who is on record to be concerned about climate change should have their name on this letter that went to secretary kerry telling him no to the pipeline. what s the problem? well, it s big oil. one of the biggest lobbies in all of washington comes from the oil industry. i would venture to say that some of these democrats in congress, they don t want to become political targets because that s exactly what s going to happen. so accolades big time, and a hats off to those 27 democrats that had the courage to step up in the midst of citizens united and money floating all over the place, attacking people, running negative ad, to step up and say we should not be building this pipeline. get your cell phones out. i want to know what you think.
no, it is larger than most small towns in america population-wise, but when you go to losing 700,000 to 69,000, that is positive and talk about that. i get defining mitt romney and things thrown at you and whirling dervishes and run the negative ad and then talk about what you are going to do. this is where the gulf between you and joy are not so wide. we won t book you together again quite obviously. we are going to have to not only tell the policy, but the revelation of you know when i was at the aspen institute, bill clinton said you have to get the guy to present the narrative in the wavy done and bill clinton until recently off message was certainly on top of that. certainly on that, right. and this is a trap for any incumbent when you say that in the next term this is what i will do, and the challenger says
i don t think so. i think what this is going to be, it s a vigorous primary. obviously we saw it in iowa. it was relentils against speaker gingrich with the negative ad. i think if 75% of iowans and 75% of americans say they want an alternative to romney, let s provide an alternative then have a full-fledged debate and who wins this, let s defeat barack obama. neil: all right. bob, my treat. thank you very much. thank you, neil. a pleasure. i m really here for one reason and one reason only, that is to make sure we make mitt romney the next president of the united states of america. neil: was it me or that great 2008 show? john mccain throwing his support behind hit rival then. his presidential choice now. mitt romney. but with romney under fire over healthcare and rick santorum
