IARN The extremely dry growing season in Iowa wasn’t ideal for farmers, however, the organic crops at an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach research farm caught a break from weed pressure.
Dr. Kathleen Delate of Iowa State University oversaw a long-term organics rotation study this summer at the Neely-Kinyon Memorial Research and Demonstration Farm, which is located south of Greenfield. The farm features a 17-acre block of 40 quarter-acre plots. Randy Breach works at the research farm as an agricultural specialist. He recently told KMA Radio that the dry weather this summer helped ease the usual weed problems with the organic crops.
