Picture: FILE/SERAFINA SILAITOGA There was an increase in the number of residents at the Golden Age Home in Samabula during the COVID-19 lockdown, says social welfare officer Neelum Kumar. “During lockdown, there was an increase in people coming as many were neglected by their family and community,” she said. “This is the largest home in Fiji and we are accommodating 53 residents at the home, 29 are females and 23 males, with 30 staff.” She said another downside of the COVID-19 pandemic was that it had resulted in a decrease in donations and assistance.
