republicans have a new way of addressing poverty. we really can look and see that all workers wages rise when unions exist. even if you yourself aren t in a union, in states where there are unionized workforces wages rise. how can this hour be the same as last hour? there s two different conceptions. there are competing conception boeft of which are heartfelt. one is yours that more unionization means more shared process prosperity. there s the general right to work state conception, which is more southern, which is that you bring more jobs and that will create prosperity. scott walker feelings that. he went after unions in the begin. ing because he, like a lot of people think we have made too many public sector union promises that we can t keep. chris christie actually can t and won t keep the promises that they need and that needs reform. that s an attractive measure. i m not sure on a nationwide
introduced a bill that would require police officers to wear body cameras. it would apply to all law enforcement agencies receiving federal grants from the justice department. so, marq, don t we need action from congress to produce real, lasting change? oh, absolutely. everybody in the pool on this one. it s a situation where, yes, you re going to need technology. yes, you will need some regulation improvement. but until we begin to deal affirmatively with the legislation, it won t have the national impact that s necessary for real reform. and the system needs reform. the system is on some level, broken, if you will. some people may argue that point, but there s a desperate need for congress, for legislators to really be engaged in this and to listen to the wishes and the will and use common sense and apply it. we have to push law enforcement back to a point where humanity matters, where they recognize the humanity in others as they
work with a democratic president to create something and build something that has helped america for the last 50 years. we know that our medical care system, including our insurance system, needs reform. obama took the republican plan, not the public plan, not the so called socialized medicine plan, bill, and he built this thing that is going to work out over time and we re going to get it right eventually. okay, bill. franklin roosevelt is rolling over in his grave to be compared to barack obama. franklin roosevelt was a serious legislator who had southern democrats, liberal republicans. people who thought you couldn t manage congress. he proved he could. won a huge re-election victory and huge off year legislative victories. barack obama lost the democratic majority in both houses of congress in 2010. couldn t get a democratic house in 2012. thank god from a conservative point of view that barack obama is no franklin roosevelt. gene robinson, i heard you chiming in. you ve writ
essentially saying the government is unfair. the system is unfair. and, boy is that important to hear from someone like that. his leadership on this issue, having him say that, be self-critical in that way was huge and very a very important moment. and bond that thing, that, it, too, needs reform, and an example of that, said he didn t have all the answers, an xempl might be the just it department assists local law enforcement in training. is that where the training, is that where the assistance should best come from? is that a reasonable offer? i don t any that s enough. but i think it s a start. you know, barack obama said, you know, when he was a senator, when he was in illinois. he put out information on where racial profiles comes from and what s the impact, but the larger issue is this he needs to address structural inequalities in sentencing. he needs to address structural
