(KLKN) – Starting January 1, you have a choice of a new license plate design that could help a veteran in need get a pet. It’s part of the “Vets Get Pets” program through the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs.
The plates are $5 if you just want the alphanumeric version. Personalized plates are $40. If there are enough plate sales, the reimbursement program for veterans who adopt pets will start July 1.
“Our agency is very excited about the ‘Vets Get Pets’ program and the opportunity to provide a new service for our state’s veterans,” said NDVA Director John Hilgert. “As an adopted pet owner myself, I can speak to the joy animals bring to our lives, and multiple studies have illustrated the value of animal companions, particularly in dealing with PTSD.
