is disturbing. reporter: they were looking in the right apartment, but they found the wrong person, when amir locke was shot by police. they were looking for his cousin, a 17-year-old charged tuesday in the murder of a man in nearby st. paul about a month earlier. court documents show investigators tracked the allegedly stolen car to a minneapolis apartment complex. search warrants had been authorized for three apartments. in one of them, locke was asleep on the couch. as he appeared to wake up, he s seen with a gun, and they shoot. locke was killed. everyone from top to bottom has blame there. the decision not to actually implement a ban on no-knock warrants, the decisions of the minneapolis police officials and
morning hours wednesday. the minneapolis police department said they were executing a warrant from a homicide investigation stemming out of nearby st. paul, minnesota. but family attorneys for lock tell us he wasn t the target of the investigation, and his name never appeared on search warrants. regardless, police burst into the apartment, he s seen wrapped in blankets, as he gets up, a gun is seen, three shots are fired by the police. lock later dies. moving forward, he s seen with the gun. police had a press conference, trying to explain what happened but there s a lot of anger in this community over what they feel like is a familiar story and here s how things unfolded last night. when will you release the search warrant. you are a murderer. you owe us answers. this is a shame, this is what

he was shot and killed nine second after the police came through the door. alex perez with the video tonight. and a warning, it is difficult. reporter: tonight, this unsettling body camera video. minneapolis swat team officers using a key to quietly open an apartment door just before 7:00 a.m., then announcing themselves. police, search warrant! reporter: nine seconds later police encounter a 22-year-old, black man, amir locke, under a blanket on a couch holding a handgun. an officer opens fire, killing him. locke s heartbroken family calling it an execution. i want the police officer that murdered my son to be prosecuted and fired. reporter: police say the raid was part of a homicide investigation in nearby st. paul and that locke was not named in the warrant. they say he pointed the handgun in the direction of the officers, but his family says he has no criminal record and legally owned the weapon and that he was startled awake and grabbed it in his confusion.
