Hillsdale College graduates walked during the 169th commencement

Hillsdale Daily News Mother’s Day weekend brought the school year to a close at Hillsdale College as graduates walked across the stage during the 169th commencement ceremony Saturday afternoon. Along with 353 undergraduates, 15 students earned a master of arts from the college. One undergraduate from 2020, who couldn’t make it to the July commencement, also walked with the group. Hillsdale College marked the accomplishments of the class of 2021 with an indoor ceremony at the Biermann Center instead of the East lawn. Hundreds of folding chairs had been positioned facing the stage, equipped with large screens, so graduates and their guests could view the speakers.

Herrera family calls for release of bodycam footage of his shooting death by Hillsdale County deputy

Hillsdale Daily News The family of Oscar Herrera, who was shot and killed by a Hillsdale County Sheriff’s deputy on April 28, is calling for the public release of body camera footage in the incident.  Initial police reports indicate a deputy was called to Herrera’s Reading Township home the evening of April 28 for a dog-at-large complaint. The dog allegedly attacked the deputy and bit him upon his arrival and the deputy then shot and killed the dog.  Herrera was upset about the death of his dog and police say Herrera then confronted the deputy with a knife and was shot and killed at the scene.
