Cancer survivors across northeast Arkansas were celebrated in Jonesboro on Sunday. NEA Baptist and St. Bernards each held a celebration for cancer survivors on National Cancer Survivors Day.

(KAIT) - NEA Baptist announced Monday the treatment would help those with severely calcified coronary artery disease. The treatment, intravascular lithotripsy, uses sonic pressure waves technology to treat problematic calcium that restricts blood flow through the artery while safely expanding it. A media release from NEA Baptist says heart disease is the leading cause of death of men and women, with more than 600,000 people in the US dying of heart disease. The release notes calcium makes the artery’s more rigid, making them difficult to reopen using normal treatments.

(KAIT) - St. Bernards Medical Center and NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital both are combating coronavirus by offering monoclonal antibody infusions. Both hospitals have administered 400 or more antibody infusions as of Thursday. Most of the positive COVID-19 patients who choose this route avoid entering the hospital. St. Bernards has seen a readmission rate of 0.03 percent. NEA Baptist has seen zero readmitted after their infusion. NEA Baptist Chief Operating Officer Melanie Edens considers the antibody infusions one of the most exciting treatments since the pandemic began.
