The race to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta in Mt Kenya region has been further complicated by last weekend’s entry of Senate Speaker Justin Muturi and photo hints of former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo mingling with the president.
Muturi’s coronation at the Njuri Ncheke shrine in Meru appeared to have stirred mixed reactions with some local leaders coming out to reject the move.

After clearing the first hurdle at the county assemblies, proponents of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) in Mt Kenya are leaving nothing to chance to ensure it sails through the referendum.
The leaders have laid down elaborate plans to sell the BBI report at the grassroots as the draft Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020, heads to Parliament.

As the clock ticks towards next year’s elections, Mt Kenya region is contemplating life after Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency.
Although Uhuru has not hidden his desire to continue championing the region’s interests after retirement, senior politicians from the vote-rich area have left nothing to chance as they position themselves to inherit the mantle.
The president is campaigning for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which he says is the best bet in ensuring that the region’s aspirations are taken care of.

Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth (
pictured) has said Mt Kenya region has an equal chance of fielding a presidential candidate in 2022 like other regions.
Kenneth, who vied for presidency in 2013, said the region accounts for a substantial amount of votes, and thus should not be limited from fielding a presidential candidate.
Speaking at Kiria-ini Catholic Church in Mathioya, Murang a, Kenneth said if a candidate from the region was accepted by Kenyans, he should not be blocked from vying for presidency.
While at Kirwara Catholic Church in Gatanga, he popularised the Building Bridges Initiative calling on residents in Mt Kenya region to support the report at the national referendum, as it means good for the country.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies have dismissed a letter penned by a section of Mt Kenya leaders criticising the president over his leadership.
Responding to Jubilee’s Tanga Tanga faction letter, the MPs from the Kieleweke wing accused their colleagues of undermining the president.
In the letter signed by 41 legislators from Mt Kenya, Nairobi and Rift Valley allied to Deputy President William Ruto, the MPs decried what they termed as poor state of the economy, betrayal of the DP, political persecution and Uhuru’s Handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
