The Amathole district municipality has approved a total operating budget of R1.8bn for the 2022/23 financial year, of which 43% is set aside for salaries.
The decision by the Amathole district municipality to reappoint its municipal manager for a second term has not met with the approval of co-operative governance and traditional affairs MEC Xolile Nqatha.
Co-operative governance & traditional affairs (Cogta) MEC Xolile Nqatha, told ADM workers on Wednesday that the provincial government was taking all the necessary steps to ensure their grievances, which resulted in the closure of municipal offices, were addressed Amathole district municipality (ADM) employees embarked on mass strike action which was preceded by the halting of services for more than a week, in protest against the re-employment of municipal manager Thandekile Mnyimba.
Hundreds of Amathole district municipality workers embarked on protest action against the re-employment of municipal manager Thandekile Mnyimba on Wednesday. Mnyimba’s employment was endorsed by the council after he scored the most points during the recruitment process, a matter that did not sit well with employees.
