Road construction under way July 23, 2021NEWS Makana Municipality is a hive of activity, with road construction projects taking place simultaneously in Joza and in the CBD. Makana LM is happy that this important work is underway and would like to appeal to residents to be patient while work is being done on these roads. Construction on the Ncame Street project is coming along nicely with most of the old tar road already removed. Makana Municipality conducted a sod-turning ceremony to mark the start of the upgrade of Ncame Street in Joza on 12 April 2021. The project will also focus on upgrading the storm water system to divert the run-off.

Fed-up businesses decide to fix Makhanda potholes themselves

Andile Sithole Businesses have taken it upon themselves to fix the potholes. The initiative comes two months after Makhanda taxi operators used their own money and manpower to fix some of the worst potholes in the town. Fed up with pothole-riddled roads of the once well-run university town of Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, businesses have taken it upon themselves to fix it. ICT and telecommunications companies, Vox, Ecologic (also known as Grahamstown Wi-Fi) and Frogfoot, have partnered to fix 300 potholes in the town as part of a project that s expected to take two months. Vox CEO Jacques du Toit announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
