While civilians and pundits cautiously welcomed Sudan’s new framework agreement, and others lauded its signing on Monday, several political parties and groups have expressed their categorical rejection of a settlement with the military.
It is expected that the signing of the framework agreement between the military junta and the Forces for Freedom and Change-Central Council (FFC-CC) and other civilian parties will take place within 72 hours. According to sources, the various political parties and alliances will each separately sign the framework agreement before the AU-IGAD-UN Trilateral Mechanism.
Talks being facilitated by the AU-IGAD-UNITAMS Trilateral Mechanism between the Forces for Freedom and Change-Central Council (FFC-CC) alliance and the ruling military are being pushed towards a settlement despite disagreement over the Mechanism’s involvement in eastern Sudan issues.
