It was also reported that police were deployed to hold back angry relatives.
A government spokesman said Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh asked Health Minister Nathir Obeidat to resign over the accident for which Obeidat said he carried “moral responsibility”.
“Between 6 and 7 this morning, oxygen ran out for nearly an hour at the hospital (in the northwestern town of Salt) and this probably led to the deaths of six patients,” Health Minister Nazir Obeidat said.
Medical sources said the patients were three men and three women. It was also reported that three of the victims were relatives (two brothers and one sister).

At least eight Covid-19 patients died on Saturday in the state-run al-Salt al-Jadeed hospital after it ran out of oxygen, according to local media, prompting the health minister to submit his resignation.
According to state-run Al-Mamlaka TV channel, the hospital was also dealing with an unspecified number of critical cases.

AMMAN - At least six COVID-19 patients have died in a Jordan hospital after it ran out of oxygen early Saturday, the health minister announced before later tendering his resignation.
Jordan s King Abdullah II ordered the head of the state hospital in the town of Salt northwest of Amman to resign, state media reported, as hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital to protest the deaths.
