A 500-level student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Mansur Garba and some yet-to-be-identified people were abducted on Wednesday by gunmen suspected to be terrorists in Zamfara, northwest Nigeria. SaharaReporters learned that the abduction happened on the highway leading to Gusau, Zamfara State capital when the terrorists stopped a car carrying no fewer than six passengers, including Mansur Garba. The vehicle was going from Sokoto to Gusua. The gunmen kidnapped the passengers and took them to an unknown location.
Many residents lamented that insecurity in the region had yet to abate despite the changes in the military and security apparatus. To date, women, children and even men are being killed, kidnapped, attacked and displaced by the bandits turned terrorists, while farmers have been chased from their farmland, stirring the possibility of poverty and hunger. And apart from the attacks, it has been argued that it is equally inhibiting the development of the country.
There is gun battle presently between terrorists and Nigerian military personnel at the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria. Students who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Saturday night added that the terrorists had however abducted another batch of students from the school – a claim which SaharaReporters cannot yet independently verify. “Pray for us; we are again under terrorists’ attacks,” one of the students said.
New facts have emerged on how terrorists invaded the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara State, and stole all the medications found at the university clinic. This was mentioned by the National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi during an interview with AIT News.
