PPP secures victory in Pak NA-249 by-poll, Imran Khan s PTI, PML-N cry foul ANI | Updated: Apr 30, 2021 10:28 IST
Islamabad [Pakistan], April 30 (ANI): Pakistan Peoples Party s (PPP) Qadir Khan Mandokhail has emerged victorious in the NA-249 by-election in Karachi by a margin of 16,156 votes, according to provisional results released early on Friday.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz s (PML-N) Miftah Ismail came second with 15,473 votes, followed by the candidate from the recently banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Mufti Nazeer Ahmed Kamalvi, who secured 11,125 votes, Dawn reported citing unofficial results.
Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal came in the fourth place with 9,227 votes, followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf s (PTI) Amjad Afridi with 8,922 votes.

The by-election for the NA-249 constituency in Karachi kicked off on Thursday as voters began arriving at polling stations to cast their ballots.
NA-249, Karachi West II, was created in 2018 by amalgamating areas that previously fell in two NA constituencies (NA-239 and NA-240) during three general elections held from 2002 to 2013.
The seat had fallen vacant after PTI s Faisal Vawda resigned over his dual nationality controversy and became a senator.

Radio Pakistan, 276 polling stations comprising 796 polling booths have been established in the constituency. The voting process, which began at 8:00am, will continue till 5pm without any break.

The counting process for the NA-249 by-election in Karachi began on Thursday as a tough contest was expected among major parties vying for the seat in one of the city s most ethnically diverse constituencies.
According to media reporters, the voter turnout remained disappointingly low in most polling stations across the constituency, despite the hype created around the election for the past few weeks.
