The days top stories from around the world, from politics and money, to sports and pop culture. Fraught discussion. The president is so far quiet today and that changes the more he watches television and talks to some friends. President trump Summer Vacation is sounding more like a venting session. At the Trump National golf club in new jersey today, the president out of public view and raging on twitter over the russia probe. More than before, hes zeroing in on the Trump Tower Meeting between top Campaign Officials and a russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics and went nowhere. I did not know about it. That sunday tweet was the most direct acknowledgment yet for the real purpose of the meeting, part of Robert Muellers inquiry. It shows how brazenly misleading the original explanation of the meeting was when donald trump
and or did you ask the russians if they would go ahead

Geoff, thank you very much. Appreciate it as always. Geoff bennett joining us from the white house. I want to turn to my panel. Joyce, let me start with you. Bearing in mind, youre not an expert on election law, but i want to stick with one point that geoff just raised there about the dangers, the legal dangers of taking a meeting with representatives of a foreign country to offer dirt here on an opposing candidate in a u. S. Election. Help us understand the legal consequences of that. Theres a very specific statute that prohibits this kind of conduct. It makes it illegal to accept or to solicit a donation or a contribution related to a u. S. Election from either a foreign citizen or a foreign government. So on its face, that prohibition would seem to apply pretty clearly. If, for instance, while run

Known. This election marks the Largest Senate gains for a president s party in a first Midterm Election since at least president kennedys in 1962. There have been only four Midterm Elections since 1934 in which a president s party has gained even a single senate seat. As of now, we picked up it looks like three, and could be four, and perhaps two, but we picked up a lot. Most like ly the number is thre, and you people probably know that better than i do at this point, because you looked at the more recent numbers. 55 is the largest number of republican senators in the last 100 years. In years a president s party has only
acquired eight cumulative seats averaging one per decade, and so if we picked up two, three, four, that is a big percentage of that number. So in the last 80 years, you think of that. Only eight seats. In President Obamas first Midterm Election, he lost six senate seats, include ing ing i deep blue state of massachusetts. Republicans captured at least four senate seats
He never made the agreement. I think he knew he was looking at jail time. It was how much he could shave off. And i think thats what were beginning to get some idea at. I would throw this question to chuck, is one of the central key differences here between these two, between the flynn and cohen case, is that flynn cooperated immediately, early, right out of the gate and often. And that cohen was late . One of the big differences here is between early cooperation and late cooperation . Flynn was immediate, it was fullsome, it was timely and it was therefore substantial. Cohen was later and less. Look, to the earlier point about tension, theres always tension. Doj is a big family, but in the end its a family and theyre going to reach one point of view, its articulated in this document. Im going to thank joyce, chuck, ken, the reverend.
