Women were at the forefront of the Naxalbari uprising against jotedars in 1967. Eight women, two children, and one man died in open firing by the police on May 25 that year. In April 2021, with Bengal days away from Phase 5 of the state Assembly elections, the women of Naxalbari are fighting a different battle.
