ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government has issued an unprecedented two-liner ordinance to reappoint prosecutor general of the National Accountability Bureau Syed Asghar Haider for an indefinite period, drawing criticism from the opposition that claimed the person-specific ordinance had made NAB even more controversial.
The ordinance was promulgated on Feb 9 and its gazette notification was made public on Feb 15.
Mr Haider, a former judge of the Lahore High Court, was appointed NAB prosecutor general in January 2018 for a period of three years. He was removed from the LHC office for taking oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO), promulgated by the then military dictator retired General Pervez Musharraf on Nov 3, 2007.
Inquiry against Sindh NAB officials for supporting corruption accused

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorities have taken notice of three officials of NAB Karachi for allegedly backing Sindh government’s officers accused of corruption of millions of rupees, and have initiated an inquiry and disciplinary proceedings against them.
According to the official documentary evidence available with ‘The News’, the disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the three officers of NAB Karachi, including two deputy directors Abdul Fateh and Imdad Ali Palijo, and a deputy assistant director, Parkash.
The NAB sources informed ‘The News’ that the accused were found responsible of supporting the Sindh Culture Department officials, who were accused of corruption, through manipulating liabilities and misappropriating the evidence of the case.
NAB gets back unanswered questionnaire sent to Fazl

ISLAMABAD: The questionnaire, sent by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has finally received back to its regional office in Peshawar in strange circumstances, sources told The News here on Tuesday.
The sources said that the NAB had sent the questionnaire through a postal registry to the address of a house, located in Shorkot, instead of approaching the relevant police department to hand over the questionnaire to Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
“The staff members of relevant post office has informed the NAB Regional Office in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) that they paid a number of visits to the address, given in the registry, but the JUI-F chief was not available to receive this questionnaire,” the sources said.
