A World War I-era American submarine has been discovered on the sea floor off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland, according to the firm Atlantic Wreck Salvage. The vessel has yet to be dived and visually identified, but based on side scan sonar data, the location, and the historical record, the team firmly believes it to be the wreckage of the R-8 (S.S. 85), an American submarine dispatched by experimental aerial bomb testing in 1936, a Thursday news release says. The team that found it, the crew of the D/V Tenacious dive vessel, says the sub had an interesting existence before coming to rest where it was discovered.
