The Navy says it does not yet have a timeline for when it will be able to fully repair a broken 36-inch water main, leaving the 93,000 people who depend on its water system to continue conservation measures and keep boiling their household water until further notice.
The Navy says it is examining who will be held accountable for a catastrophic jet fuel spill last year that poisoned the drinking water at a Hawaii military base, acknowledging this week that the public health disaster resulted from widespread failures and ultimately was preventable.
The Honolulu Board of Water Supply says fuel contamination in the Navy’s Pearl Harbor water distribution system is affecting the island’s water supply as a whole and more restrictions may be necessary if the weather does not cooperate.
