NAVI MUMBAI: City activists have questioned NMMC on why over Rs 7 crore civic funds have been wasted on the Multipurpose Building Project in sector 14, Vashi, even though the building still lies in a state of incompletion, while also being unstable.
Vashi based activist, Vaibhav Sawant, said: The NMMC project for a ground-plus-two multipurpose building structure was announced way back in 2011. However, its construction is still incomplete at the site, although Rs 7 crore has already been spent on it. Recently, I was shocked to learn from civic sources that the building may be demolished soon, since it is `structurally unstable . It is therefore a matter of shame that this building project could not be completed on time, and now it may face demolition.

THANE: The sessions court convicted a 33-year-old man from Ghansoli for abetting the suicide of a 17-year-old girl and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment. The judge also fined the accused an amount of Rs 4,000. The accused is a married man and the deceased was his neighbour.
Judge G P Shirsat, at the special court trying cases of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, held the accused Nitin Madhavi, guilty of the offences punishable under the provisions of Atrocities Act and under Pocso Act.
Prosecutor Sanjay Londhe told the court that the victim was only 17 years old and lived close to the accused who used to stalk her. He also made advances to the victim and harassed her by saying he wanted a sexuon December 29, 2016, the victim hanged herself from the ceiling of her room.

While parole is a provision that humanises an otherwise rigid penal system and is rightfully granted in several instances, in cases of repeat offenders, especially those accused of causing bodily harm, the parameters should be stringent enough to protect the purported survivors as well as those who could be harmed in the future. If authorities are inclined to grant parole, then relevant conditions must be imposed to ensure this. In this case, the police and prosecution must ensure that a water tight case is built and that the case is fast tracked. Justice must be ensured for the bereaved family.
