Opinion/letter: A simple act to help reduce gun violence

Dear neighbors: I have a favor to ask of you. Please contact our U.S. Senators Warren and Markey and ask them to pass background checks on all gun sales and close the Charleston Loophole. Versions of these bills recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives and will be brought to the floor in the Senate soon. These bipartisan legislative proposals are important stepping-stones to preventing the tragic gun violence experienced every day in this country.
Background checks have been proven to save lives, and nearly 90% of gun owners support these checks on all gun sales. You may already know that Massachusetts has a comprehensive background check system in place. Yet, we are not free from gun crime in this state, and many incidents occur with guns purchased in other states where the laws are weak. Police Blotter: Dropped Money Bag At Taziki s Held $3,800 Cash; Man Says He Got Fake $100 Bill From His Boss Monday, April 12, 2021
A woman at a residence on Market Street told police that she had stopped at Taziki s Restaurant that afternoon to pick up a to-go order and believes that she dropped her money bag out of her purse. She says that it held about $3,800 cash. She said she checked with the restaurant and it had not been turned in.
Police were dispatched to St. Peter s Episcopal School, 848 Ashland Terrace, due to suspicious vehicles parked there. The vehicles were backed in at the school, tucked away in the far back parking lot.
