Conwy Civic Hall building will be offered on the open market this summer Conwy county council has ratified a lease with a preferred bidder to redevelop a Grade-II listed building as a mixed retail, tourism and residential development. The authority’s cabinet ratified the lease at its meeting last week, paving the way for Chester-based Nautical Point Ltd to submit plans. It is understood the company has already spoken with Cadw and the plans will be submitted to Conwy county council soon. It marks a long process to find a use for the building which closed in 2014, including a bid by pub chain Wetherspoons to take it over.
THE Year in Review continues with September and October when local lockdown restrictions came into force in Conwy. While coronavirus continued to dominate the news there were some bizarre stories that made their way to the top of the pile.
Thursday, September 3, ‘New company bids for Hall’: Pub giant JD Wetherspoon voiced its disappointment after missing out on plans to develop Conwy’s Civic Hall into one of its own establishments. Conwy council cabinet members instead decided the preferred bidder was Nautical Point Ltd, related to Pure Resident and Commercial Ltd and Pure Retirement Living, to redevelop the site. “Our aim is to support regeneration and add to the quality tourism offer in Conwy with a sustainable development,” said Cllr Goronwy Edwards, cabinet member for economic development. “We have a duty to make sure we make the right decision.” The Civic Hall continues to remain vacant.
