CTD lodges Rangers mobile attack case under ATA

A day after the deadly blast that targeted a Rangers mobile in Orangi Town, the Counter-Terrorism Department of the Sindh police registered a case on Tuesday against unidentified persons under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.
The FIR was lodged at the CTD Civil Lines on behalf of Rangers official Ghulam Sarwar. Police have placed multiple sections, including murder, attempt to murder and damaging property, the Pakistan Penal Code, as well as Section 7 of the ATA and Explosive Act.
The FIR reads that unidentified terrorists at the behest of anti-state elements carried out an attack on the security force’s mobile to sabotage peace and disrupt the law

Adulterated seeds, fake pesticides affect Punjab cotton production

MULTAN: The cotton prospects 2020-21 presents a very gloomy picture as the country has lost more than 34 percent cotton crop production due to adulterated seeds, spurious pesticides and lack of effective strategy.
According to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) statistics, the cotton farmers of south Punjab suffered gravely. The statistics shows that 5,493,138 bales of cotton arrived in the country s ginning factories until January 15, compared to 8,338,026 bales of cotton had arrived in the factories during the same corresponding period of last year. The fresh statistics have shown a shortfall of 2,844,888 bales leaving a heavy decrease in production to 34.12 percent.

Following the passage of some 15 years and no fruition, various development plans, once enthusiastically pitched, exist today as little more than hollow words stamped in the budget books of the Sindh government.
“There are over 200 such schemes lying incomplete as of now,” revealed an official of the Sindh Planning and Development Department (P&D). “These include around 50 projects for education, 30 for local government, 28 for irrigation and 23 for public health engineering, as well as those for transport, sanitation and women empowerment.”

KARACHI: Three senior doctors were among 23 people who died due to the coronavirus infection in Sindh between Thursday and Friday, raising the Covid-19 death toll in the province to 3,132, said provincial health officials on Friday.
They added that 873 patients of Covid-19 were under treatment at various health facilities in the province, of whom the condition of 777 was serious while 94 were on life support.
Officials said a former director general (DG) health of Sindh, a retired anaesthetist of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and a senior paediatrician were the three senior doctors who passed away due to COVID-19 and its complications at different health facilities in the province.
