Montana Western Team Places First at Road to the Horse Collegiate Colt Starting Challenge
Top collegiate horsemanship teams competing in the Days of ’47 Rodeo and Road to the Horse Collegiate Colt Starting Challenge held on July 23rd and 24th at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park & Event Center in South Jordan, Utah exhibited exceptional horsemanship, hard work, determination and skill that was truly a testament to each program.

Teams from the University of Montana Western, Casper College and Utah Valley University each started a colt from the Diamond-McNabb Ranch Horse Remuda in a close competition that came down to the final obstacle course.
2021 Colt Sale Raises Over $200,000 for Natural Horsemanship Program
The University of Montana Western’s Fifth Annual Colt Challenge and Sale, held April 2 and 3 at the Montana Center for Horsemanship, broke previous sale records by generating more than $200,000 for the UMW Natural Horsemanship Program. Highest-selling colt, RSR Easy Playguns pictured above, sold for $19,000 to Karen Murphy from Old Chatham, NY at the annual Colt Sale held April 3 at the Montana Center for Horsemanship. RSR Easy Playguns was the overall champion in the Colt Challenege held on April 2. Rider and trainer Jacob Christenson was awarded a $2,500 scholarship for placing first.
