The Otago Regional Council (ORC) commissioned NIWA to undertake the mapping in late 2019, after a desk-based review by GNS Science, also commissioned by ORC, identified the likely fault earlier that year. The NW Cardrona fault was previously thought to have run northeast from the Cardrona Valley, through Albert Town to Hawea. ORC Flood Alert Service Survey Closing Soon

Wednesday, 20 January 2021, 2:22 pm An Otago Regional Council (ORC) Flood Alert Service survey which began in December 2020 will close at the end of January. The survey aims to find out how best to communicate with Otago residents about flood information and updates. While the survey has been open since before flooding at the start of January, such weather events are a good reminder of the importance of effective tools for informing the public.
