Cause of fatal Casper motorcycle crash under investigation

CASPER, Wyo. The cause of a motorcycle crash that claimed the life of one person is being investigated by officials in Casper. The crash reportedly occurred over the weekend.
The Natrona County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 25 year old Benjamin Bournes of Evansville, in a statement website Monday morning.
Law enforcement officials confirmed to Oil City, in a written statement, that the crash happened Saturday, May 8 shortly after 2:00am, near 18
th and McKinley Streets.

“We received a report that a motorcycle had crashed. Upon arrival officers located one individual nearby a wrecked motorcycle,” a spokesperson for the Casper Police Department said Monday morning. “Officers immediately began rendering medical aid. The individual was later pronounced deceased on scene.”

According to police, the incident stemmed from a traffic stop at 3:54 a.m. Thursday near East H Street and North Elma Street.
Police did not say the reasons for the traffic stop.
Police say officers approached the vehicle to speak with the occupants when the driver unexpectedly got out and the passenger moved to the driver s seat and tried to flee the scene.
According to the release, an officer was inside the vehicle with the new driver when the new driver tried to speed off. At some point, the vehicle made it onto Interstate 25 into oncoming traffic when the officer fired their weapon, the release states.

His next of kin have been notified and an autopsy has been scheduled.
