Vaccines slowly getting to community centers

KXLY February 17, 2021 7:11 PM Alex Crescenti SPOKANE, Wash. Vaccine phases divide us by age first, but there are concerns there is division in vaccine access based on race and ethnicity. Minority groups are getting the vaccine in disproportionately lower number. The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center is just one example of how the Spokane Regional Health District is working with community based organizations to get the vaccine out. On Tuesday, people 65 and older and those 50 and older living in multigenerational households could come and get their shot in Spokane. Between all providers in Spokane, nearly 75,000 doses of the COVID vaccine have been given out. The Spokane Regional Health District says they have administered more than 9,000 doses of the vaccine to various areas. KXLY February 16, 2021 8:56 AM Erin Robinson Local leaders discussed the switch in a COVID-19 Recovery Group meeting Tuesday morning. It is not clear when the switch will happen, but when it does, CHAS Health, the current operator, will step back and continue work as a medical partner. The move is to help take some of the pressure off of CHAS. The DOH is expected to bring in additional medical partners like Kaiser, Providence and MultiCare to assist with vaccinations. These healthcare providers will take turns administering vaccines at the site, though the DOH will be the lead. Spokane Regional Health District Administrator Amelia Clark said the Native Project is also expected to help at the site.
