WASHINGTON, DC The U.S. military s Air Combat Command will be conducting a flyover in the D.C. area on Friday at 1 p.m. The flyover will include four T-38 aircraft.
The Air Combat Command, part of the U.S. Air Force, is offering residents the advance notice unlike a month ago when the military conducted a flyover without warning that rattled windows and nerves.

“Every other major war of the 20th century is honored with a memorial here in our nation’s capital except for WWI,” said Meredith Carr, WWI Centennial Commission deputy director. “We are not a country that forgets – we don’t forget our heroes or our fallen. It was so important to construct this [memorial] to speak for those who no longer have a voice.”

Flag raised for 1st time at World War I memorial

WASHINGTON, D.C. The nation’s capital has national memorials commemorating the sacrifices of service men and women who died in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Until this year, there hasn’t been a national memorial commemorating World War I.
During a “first colors” ceremony, the U.S. flag was raised April 16 for the first time over the newly constructed National World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C.
