Halle Schaffer (Courtesy photo) The American Association of University Women Del Mar-Leucadia Branch announces the winners of its recent Speech Trek contest for high school students. Hosted on Zoom by branch Speech Trek Coordinator Sharon Corbett-Parry, eight contestants from five high schools presented original speeches on the topic: “Has social media helped or hindered the breaking down of barriers for women and girls?” Halle Schaffer, a senior at San Dieguito High School Academy, won the $500 first prize. She is president of her Speech and Debate Team and the Greater Encinitas-Carlsbad Leos club. Schaffer will now compete at the state level.
