"The LDA’s ‘development’ schemes are threatening the existence of Loktak fishers and farmers who are arguably the most environment and ecology friendly community in the world".
The Champhu Khangpok floating village fishing community wants the state government to consult them before launching any development projects in Loktak Lake area.
All lands occupied by residents of 26 villages around Pumlen and Khoidum Lamjao must be protected and that Survey and Demarcation of the lake must be done along with the land owners, a release stated.
The Loktak lake, revered in Manipur folklore as a goddess, is Asia's largest freshwater lake and is at the centre of a political and environmental battle in the state of Manipur.
